To the editor:
It is with the greatest of pleasure that I write the following thank you.
First and foremost, to the tough Yoopers, young and old, who braved a truly bizarre weather system that brought sideways rain, wind and balmy temperatures in the mid to upper 40's June 13 and 14. They came to enjoy great food and music while helping the Rotary Club of Houghton help the community.
Over 27 years, Houghton Rotary has raised well over $400,000 through its annual fundraiser (Seafood Fest). This would've not been possible without the support of this great community. Each year hundreds of volunteers, many local companies and institutions help us in planning and executing this event. It's a lot of work, but clearly demonstrates this community's belief in the value of volunteerism and their dedication to helping one's neighbor.
We'd like to thank the following sponsors and volunteers who stepped up to help put on Bridgefest FEAST 2014:
Our title sponsor was Portage Health. Special thanks to Victor Harrington, marketing director. Major sponsors included Great Lakes Accounting, Michigan Tech (Dining Services, Facilities Management and Athletics Department), WalMart Store of Houghton and Industrial Graphics. Thank you to fellow Rotarian Doug Coffman and his team at PickAxe Creative for marketing support. Our media sponsor was The Daily Mining Gazette.
Other generous contributors include The Marketing Department, Houghton Community Broadcasting, WKMJ and WMPL, City of Houghton, Superior Equipment & Events, Waste Management, A-1 Toy-Lets, Ferrellgas, Bay Electric, River Valley Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, Peterlin Distributing, Dallas Bond for organizing the entertainment and the special cooperation of the Bridgefest Committee.
Volunteer groups: Michigan Tech student athletes (Football, Hockey, Women's Basketball, Tennis, Endurance Athletes, Men's Basketball), Alpha Gamma Delta Women's Fraternity, Theta Chi Sorority, Triangle Fraternity, Delta Upsilon Fraternity, Delta Phi Epsilon Sorority, Sigma Rho Fraternity, Sigma Pi Fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity, Keweenaw Business and Professional Women, Youth Advisory Council, Army ROTC, HHS Key Club, HHS FIRST Robotics, HHS Interact Club, HOSA, HHS National Honor Society and Copper Country Skating Academy.
Thank you to our food vendor partners, The Library Restaurant & Pub, Fitzgerald's Restaurant, Habaeros Fresh Mexican Kitchen and Michigan Tech Dining Services who believed in the new model.
A special personal thank you to fellow Rotarian and my friend Jack Ham who, once again, helped me when I really needed it!
