MTU women’s hoops to host Lions

HOUGHTON — The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team hosts Finlandia at 6 p.m. Friday in its second exhibition game of the 2019-20 schedule at the SDC Gym.

Admission to the game will be a cash or canned goods donation to the Husky Food Access Network.

Cash donations are accepted at the SDC Ticket Office, while can donations can be made at the doors. Tickets cost $5 without a donation.

Donations supports the 25 percent of Michigan Tech students, who reported not being able to afford food. The network provides multiple resources for the campus community, including a campus food pantry, meal swipes, emergency food packets and educational programs.

The Huskies tipped off the 2019-20 season at NCAA Div. I University of Wisconsin-Green Bay in their first exhibition game on Oct. 24. The Huskies held their own in a 54-41 loss.

MTU junior Baillie McGirk guided the Huskies’ attack with 11 points followed by sophomore Ellie Mackay with nine points, four rebounds and two assists. Senior Hannah Hobson chipped in eight points while senior Abbie Botz posted two points and a team best eight rebounds.

The regular season opener is at Lewis at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m.
