Houghton-Hancock ski closes regular season with win over Marquette

BESSEMER — The Houghton-Hancock ski team wrapped up the regular season by edging Marquette 35-42 for the victory Thursday at Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort in Bessemer.

For Houghton-Hancock, Ally Fenton won the girls slalom in a total time of 1 minute, 16.19 seconds. Fenton’s second run of 35.65 was the fastest run of the day.

Also for Houghton-Hancock, Greta Berg took fifth (1:32.89); Shelly Chu was seventh (1:40.84); Jenna Stein was eighth (1:46.92); and Madi Williston was 10th (2:24.85).

In the giant slalom, Stein took first with a time of 52.78. Fenton finished second at 53.94. Chu rounded out the top five (59.57), while Berg was sixth (1:00.20) and Willston was 10th (1:22.36).

On the boys side, Jonathan Newman earned a top 10 finish in boys giant slalom, finishing ninth in 1:02.64.
