Houghton-Hancock ski finishes 2nd in regionals

HARBOR SPRINGS — The Houghton-Hancock girls ski team qualified for the MHSAA Division 2 State Finals with a runner-up finish Monday at the regional meet Monday at Nub’s Nob in Harbor Springs. 

Houghton-Hancock finished with a score of 96, trailing first-place Harbor Springs (60).

Jenna Stein took first for Houghton-Hancock in the girls giant slalom with two runs totaling a time of 54.28 seconds. She finished her first run in 27.15 before completing her second run in 27.13. 

Ally Fenton was the other top local finisher in the event, coming in fifth (55.79). Katherine Jarvis earned 10th (56.23). 

In girls slalom, Sten finished second (1:16.66), just 0.65 behind Maddy Fuhrman of Harbor Springs. Jarvis secured a sixth-place finish (1:20.72), while Fenton took 11th (1:24.88).
