L’Anse girls end E-TC’s 11-game winning streak

EWEN — Thanks to L’Anse’s physicality and the inside presence of Alexis Francois, the L’Anse Purple Hornets snapped the Ewen-Trout Creek Panthers’ 11-game winning streak by handing them a 63-50 nonconference defeat Friday in Ewen.

Francois led the Purple Hornets with 24 points, and Bailey Froberg added 14 for a L’Anse squad that tallied 14 offensive rebounds.

“We had trouble boxing out Alexis Francois,” E-TC head coach Jacky Besonen said. “That combined with their good shooting was too much to overcome. We were a little off-balance, offensively, with the loss of Maddy (Cronkright).”

Cronkright, E-TC’s starting point guard, missed the game after suffering a broken toe by playing basketball during lunch hour.

Paige Berglund and Elise Besonen each scored 18 points for E-TC.

“We held them in the first half but missed too many shots in the second (half),” Besonen said.

Next, E-TC (11-3) hosts baraga on Monday; L’Anse (7-8) welcomes Ishpeming on the same day.
