Jacob Wenzlick

BAY CITY, Mich. — Michigan Tech wide receiver Jacob Wenzlick has been selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in Week 1 against Truman State. Wenzlick helped lead the Huskies to a 38-14 victory over Truman State this past Thursday at Sherman Field.

Wenzlick, a sophomore from Meridian, Mich., was instrumental in both kick and punt returns Thursday night. He returned the opening kickoff of the second half 66 yards to setup an eventual 2-yard touchdown run by running back John Williams. Wenzlick also had a 19-yard punt return which led to a Jake Brown touchdown pass of 25 yards to Kevin Kirkland in the fourth quarter.

Wenzlick finished the night with 86 kickoff return yards on two attempts and combined for 38 yards on a pair of punt returns. On offense, Wenzlick caught a trio of passes from Brown for 21 yards and completed game one with 145 all-purpose yards.

The Huskies will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Hillsdale College (Mich.) for their first road test of the season. The non-conference contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.
