Finlandia volleyball swept by UW-Superior

HANCOCK — The Finlandia University volleyball team (4-20) lost 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-17) to UW-Superior (15-9), Wednesday night at Paavo Nurmi Center.

In the opening set, junior Marina Dalton dropped in an ace to make it 6-4, UW-Superior. The Yellowjackets went on a 10-3 to put the set away.

In the second set, Superior looked to be in control with an 18-11 lead. Finlandia refused to quit and battled back with a 6-2 run. Junior Nicole Anderson recorded an ace to make it 20-17. UW-Superior closed with a 5-3 run to go up 2-0.

In the third set, the teams went back and forth. Sophomore Makayla Mickam hammered one down the middle to give the Lions an 8-7 lead. The Yellowjackets scored eight straight points to effectively end the match.

For Finlandia, freshman Kaisa Holmstrom had kills while N. Anderson had 21 assists and three aces.

For UW-Superior, Anna Ribich had eight kills, Megan Holz had 27 assists and Mackenzie Dahlin had 13 digs. 

Finlandia heads downstate, to Grand Rapids, Friday, taking on Mount Mary and Grace Bible. The games are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. & 6 p.m., respectively.
