LL-H volleyball wins conference title

LAKE LINDEN — The Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes earned their eight consecutive Copper Country volleyball conference title with a sweep over the Ewen-Trout Creek Panthers (25-11, 25-16, 25-17) and a four-set win over the Dollar Bay Blue Bolts (25-16, 25-15, 15-25, 25-13) Thursday in Lake Linden.

The Lakes finished a perfect 11-0 in conference play.

Mariah Willmer led the Lakes with 29 kills on 62 attempts (.355). Erin Seppala added 17 kills, and Maija Codere chipped in with 12 kills. Laura Lyons finished with 64 assists.

“Mariah had a big night,” LL-H head coach Maureen Schick said. “Lots of kills and a great hitting percentage.

“Defensively though, the team has faltered. We are going to have to pick up the intensity as we start playoffs.”

LL-H closed the regular season 20-7-3.

Class D District 128 will be held at Dollar Bay. Ontonagon plays Dollar Bay at 5 p.m. on Monday, while LL-H will go up against Baraga at 6:45 p.m.
