FU men’s hockey loses 4-1

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. — It was 60 minutes of hustle as the Finlandia University men’s hockey team (0-7-1) lost 4-1 to No. 16 UW-Eau Claire (7-3), Sunday afternoon at Hobbs Ice Arena.

Finlandia was clearly in charge for the entire period. The Lions had two potential goals stopped in the first two minutes of the game.

Over the next 10 minutes, FinnU had three good shots at the goal that were blocked. UW-Eau Claire was getting pushed back on their heels. With 1:20 left, the Bluegolds took advantage of a power play to make it 1-0.

Finlandia remained on the hunt as sophomore Blake Peavey just missed about two minutes into the second period. The Lions also had three shots blocked away over the next four minutes.

UWEC picked up two goals in six minutes to get some breathing room. Late in the third period, Finlandia senior Matt Benolkin ended the shutout bid scoring on a pass from sophomore Danny Hill.

Peavey was strong on face-offs with a winning percentage of just under .500. Junior Matt Arnold had 56 saves for the Lions.
