Rough 2nd quarter dooms FU women against Lakeland
PLYMOUTH, Wis. — A tough second period was the difference as the Finlandia University women’s basketball team (0-1) lost 78-59 to Lakeland (1-0), Wednesday night at Wolzen Gymnasium.
In the second period, the Muskies outscored FinnU 36-11 behind 76.2 percent shooting from the floor.
Led by junior Lela Horne and freshman Julia Nordstrom, the Lions closed the period on a 17-4 run. Horne and Nordstrom scored 14 of the points. That was as close as FinnU could get.
For Finlandia, Nordstrom had 15 points and Horne scored 13 with three 3-pointers, both coming off the bench. Richards had eight points and eight rebounds while junior Haley Makela pulled down 12 boards.
Finlandia remains on the road, taking on Rose-Hulman, Friday, in Holland, Mich.
