Calumet defeats MQT 3-2

CALUMET — Dean Loukus scored the game-winning goal as the Calumet Copper Kings earned a 3-2 win over the Marquette Redmen Saturday at the Calumet Colosseum.

Tied at 2, Loukus scored with 9:53 left in the third for the go-ahead goal, while Brent Loukus and Sam Erkkila assisted.

Brent Loukus opened the scoring just 28 seconds in when he scored unassisted. His second goal of the night with 1:44 left in the second period tied the game up at 2. Tanner Rowe and Scott Loukus assisted.

Marquette’s Sean O’Connor and Tanner Phillips each scored on the power play in the second period for the Redmen’s lone goals.

Calumet’s Alex Studebaker finished with 24 saves, while Marquette’s Tyler Bergwall had 19 stops.

Next, Calumet plays Hancock at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the MacInnes Student Ice Arena in a semifinal matchup of the Holiday Classic. Houghton plays Howell at 6 p.m.
