Michigan Tech women climb 2 spots to No. 13

LILBURN, Ga. – The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team moved up two spots to No. 13 in the latest Women’s Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, announced Thursday by the national office.

The Huskies were ranked 21st in the preseason poll, moved up to 10th in the first regular season rankings and held the No. 18 ranking for two weeks prior to jumping up to No. 15 in last week’s rankings.

The Huskies extended their winning streak to six games this past Sunday when they defeated Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Northern Michigan 59-56 on the road.

Tech outscored the Wildcats 14-8 in the third quarter to move in front and then held off NMU in the final minute to secure the win. The victory improved the Huskies’ overall record to 11-1 and 5-0 in the GLIAC as they head into the holiday break.

Michigan Tech earned 282 points in this week’s poll and remain as one of two GLIAC teams ranked in the top 25.

Ashland was also unbeaten last week and stays in the No. 1 spot with 575 points and all 23 first place votes. Grand Valley State is also just outside the top 25 again this week with a spot in the receiving votes category.

The Huskies are off until after the holidays when they return home to face top-ranked and defending national champion Ashland in the SDC on Thursday January 4th. The tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
