Boys basketball roundup: Jeffers, Calumet both win
PAINESDALE — Carson Turner scored 23 points to propel Jeffers past L’Anse 59-42 Friday in Painesdale.
Turner hit five 3-pointers and was 4-5 at the free throw line to lead all scorers, while also recording 10 steals for a double-double. He tacked on four assists and six rebounds.
The Jets (11-7) outscored the Purple Hornets 31-17 in the second half to secure the nonleague win.
L’Anse (4-14) was led by Alec Rajala with 12 points.
Next up, Jeffers travels to Baraga at 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, while L’Anse heads to Hancock at 7:15 on the same day

CALUMET — Cooper Twardzik scored 27 points as Calumet (13-5) cruised to a 65-36 nonleague victory over Lake Linden-Hubbell (4-15) Friday in Calumet.
Matt Ojala added 12 points and Eli McParlan had 10. LL-H was led by Carter Crouch with 16 points.
Next up, Calumet hosts Houghton on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m. LL-H welcomes Chassell for its final game of the season on the same day.

BESSEMER — Bessemer held off Ontonagon in overtime for a 63-59 Copper Mountain Conference win Friday night.
Much like the game’s other quarters went, the Speedboys scored early in overtime and led by seven points before Ontonagon began to chip away at the lead.
The inside games pretty much neutralized each other, and both teams made outside shots. Bessemer hit 10 3s and Ontonagon had eight with six of them from Henry Menigoz.
Menigoz led all scorers with 22 points.
Bessemer (13-6, 6-7) goes to Ewen-Trout Creek Thursday. Ontonagon (7-11, 4-8) hosts Watersmeet Tuesday.
