Boys roundup: No. 1 Dollar Bay tops R-M, goes to 19-0

REPUBLIC — Dollar Bay used a balanced scoring effort to defeat Republic-Michigamme 65-55 in a Copper Mountain Conference game on Tuesday in Republic.

The Blue Bolts (19-0, 14-0) were led by Jaden Janke with 18 points and Devin Schmitz and Jakob Iacono with 17 each.

Brandon Thompson was out sick.

R-M (7-13, 3-12) was led by River Shumate with 14 points.

“We are still having issues with taking our foot off the gas at times,” Dollar Bay coach Jesse Kentala said. “On three different occasions we were up by 20 and then we loosened up defensively. Credit Republic for making us pay for poor defensive rotations. To be a great team in March, we need to be active on every defensive possession. I fully expect us to be ready come Monday.”

Next up Dollar Bay heads to Jeffers on Thursday at 7:20 p.m.
