TAPIOLA — Tapiola and Houghton took opening wins in Over 50 Softball League play Thursday.

In the first game, Tapiola was a 16-12 victor over South Range as Dave Hoffman whacked out four hits. John Kinnunen also had four raps, while Gordy Sedar, Nels Paul and winning pitcher Len Juntunen added two raps each.

Brien Ricci and Dave Fehringer collected three hits each for Range, with Dick Franti and Pat Duguay getting a pair each.

Joe Rossi added two hits for South Range as well.

Houghton trounced Chassell by a 22-3 score in the second game behind four hits from Dave Usitalo.

Kevin Tormala, Dave Kamerand and winning pitcher Steve Dunstan notched three hits each.

Dunstan allowed just seven hits on the mound.
