EWEN — The Calumet Copper Kings boys basketball team dug deep after the first quarter and then opened the game up in the second en route to a 72-39 victory on the road at Ewen-Trout Creek Monday night.

The two teams fought to a stalemate in the first quarter, 16-16, but Calumet scored 14 points in the second to just four for the Panthers, and that gave them a 30-25 advantage at the half.

The Panthers struggled to find an answer for Eli McParlan, who potted 25 points on the night.

Matt Ojala added 14 and Travis Ojala picked up 10 to help pace the Copper Kings.

Calumet scored 25 points in the third quarter while holding the Panthers to just 10.

Jaden Borseth led the Panthers with 17 points.
