HOUGHTON — The Houghton Gremlins scored eight goals over 35:18 to earn an 8-0 victory Thursday over the visiting Negaunee Miners at Dee Stadium.

Brendan Erickson had two goals and three assists in the contest. Niko Rajala had a goal and two assists. Ty Halonen added two goals and an assist as well.

The Gremlins struck three times in the first period to jump out to a lead that the Miners could not come back from.

Tucker Tapani scored the game’s first goal just 1:49 in. Halonen and Erickson added tallies at 10:08 and 16:45 to put the Gremlins up 3-0 after one. Rajala had two assists in the frame.

In the second period, Brad Gauthier scored 3:52 in as the Gremlins continued to pour the pressure on. Erickson scored again at 5:54. Halonen added his second at 12:27.

Rajala then scored a goal at 16:15 to put Houghton up 7-0.

Erickson added two assists in the period.

Just 1:18 into the third, Dane Johnson scored off a feed from Erickson to seal the win.

Matthew Ryynanen made two saves on the night to earn his second career win. Nolan Corwin made 48 saves for the Miners.
