Roundup: Houghton Rotary, Rajala’s Kitchens earn wins
In Portage Lake Minor League Baseball, Houghton Rotary started their season strong with a 7-5 win over South Range V.F.W. Monday.
Luciano Paoli got the win on the mound, going 4 1/3 innings and striking out eight.
Tevin Stukel earned a save by striking out three in 1 2/3 innings with one walk. Stukel was also strong at the plate, where he went 3-for-3 with two runs scored.
Jax Pierner had two hits and two runs. Isaac Wanhala also went 2-for-3 with one run scored.
For South Range, Porter Markham had two hits, one walk and two runs scored.
Brexton Kinnunen, Markham and Jamie Larson combined to take the loss.
Rajala’s Kitchens over DP Construction, 12-10.
On Monday, in their season opener, Rajala Kitchens earned a win over DP Construction, thanks in large part to Brycen Nettell, who had three hits, including a home run, and four RBI. Carter Wuori added two hits, one for a double.
DP Construction was led by Keedin Roberts, Casey Hiller and Mason Soli each had three hits. Hiller picked up a home run in the bottom of the third inning.
