Chassell, Houghton win

TAPIOLA — Chassell and Tapiola played an old-fashioned pitcher’s duel Thursday night in Over 50 Softball League play.

Chassell was a 6-0 winner in a game where winning hurler Steve Giddings and losing hurler Len Juntunen each gave up just eight hits.

But Chassell busted open a 2-0 game with four runs in the fifth inning.

Jay LeClaire laced out three hits for Chassell, with Pat Duguay and Giddings picking up two each.

Mike Harkonen, Jim Kemppainen and Scott Hall each had two raps for winless Tapiola.

In the other game, league leader Houghton was a 9-4 victor over South Range.

Scott Madajewski was the winning pitcher and contributed two hits along with Dave Kamerand, Darren Hietala and Tom LeGault.

Ed Furst cracked out four hits for South Range and Dick Franti added three more.

Joe Rossi was the losing chucker.
