Soccer: Christian School takes third place

MARQUETTE — The Copper Country Christian School team took third in the Red Division of the U.P. soccer finals last weekend.

The Warriors partner with area homeschoolers, and the co-ed team is coached by John Nelson, Jon Hendricks, Brian Fehringer and Isaac Balyo. Seniors Noah Bach, Sierra Jackson, Jari Juntti, Danelle Leinonen and Noah Noble finished out a fine season with the tournament.

In the semifinal game, CCCS led Negaunee 3-1 late before Negaunee forced a shootout by scoring two quick goals. Negaunee won 2-1 in the shootout to face Marquette JV 1 in the championship game (which they also won in another shootout).

CCCS beat Sault Ste. Marie Varsity in the consolation game, 2-1.

Noah Bach led the team with five goals. Freshman Colby Balyo also scored.

In the Black (varsity) Division, Marquette won its 12th straight U.P. title, defeating Kingsford 6-2.
