Conover signs to play hockey at Finlandia

HANCOCK — Cameron Conover has committed to play for the Finlandia University men’s hockey team. He is planning on majoring in Business.

Conover, a right-handed forward, is coming off an impressive season with the Metro Jets (USPHL Premier). He tallied nine goals with 22 assists for 31 points in 37 games. Conover helped the Jets win the Great Lakes Division for the second straight year.

“I’m very excited to spend my next four years at Finlandia,” he said. “The school is a great fit for me and I’ll have the opportunity to pursue my business degree while able to play for the hockey team that has a very bright future. Being able to pursue both of these passions while being located in the beautiful Upper Peninsula is what led me to my decision to become a Lion.”

Conover, a Fenton native, had a strong career at Flint Powers High School. He was All-Saginaw Valley Conference first team, All-State Academic and Division 3 All-State second team.

“Cameron has won at every level of hockey,” Finlandia head coach Joe Burcar said. “In addition, he has excelled on the ice and in the classroom. We are extremely happy to have Cameron as part of our program, school and community.”

Conover helped Powers to the Division 3 State semifinals in 2017 and won a bronze medal in Beijing for an international tournament representing the USA.

“Cam brought his size and versatility to our program. He fit in immediately and garnered a lot of NCAA attention during the season,” Metro Jets head coach Justin Quennville said. “What impressed us the most was how much he took advantage of our program. He came in everyday wanting to get better and improve his habits all over the ice. I think Finlandia is a great fit for him and we wish him the best of luck.”
