Defenseman Walerowicz commits to Finlandia

HANCOCK — Nathan Walerowicz committed to play for the Finlandia University men’s hockey team.

“I’m proud to announce my commitment to Finlandia University. I have continuously worked to become a collegiate hockey player,” Walerowicz said. “Coach (Joe) Burcar made me feel comfortable and excited about the prospect of joining his program. Finlandia University will allow me to grow as a person both on and off the ice. Thank you to those that believed in me as I hope to contribute to this great program.”

Walerowicz, Sanborn, N.Y. native and defenseman, had a strong season with the New York Apple Core (EHL).

“Nathan has tremendous character, attitude and team first attitude to our group,” Burcar said. “He has good size with a heavy shot from the blue line and takes pride in the defense zone on shutting opponents down. Welcome to the program Nathan.”

Walerowicz scored four goals with 10 assists for 14 points in 27 games. Walerowicz was an honor roll student in high school.

“Nathan provided character, leadership, work ethic and accountability for us both on and off the ice,” New York Apple Core head coach Mike LaZazzera. “It was a pleasure seeing Nathan develop as a player and more importantly as a person. Nathan will be missed by the New York Apple Core organization.”
