Portage Lake Little League cancels season
HOUGHTON — The Portage Lake Little League Board voted to cancel the 2020 baseball and softball seasons because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The decision was announced Wednesday afternoon by league president Wes Frahm. The lost season joins an ever-growing list of local events and activities canceled by the pandemic.
“We tried to hold out as long as possible with hope that social distancing and group gathering policies would be relaxed enough to play ball,” Frahm said. “Unfortunately, that has not happened.
“Many of the fields we use for the league are closed because of those policies,” Frahm added. “Too much uncertainty remains as to when those policies might change. We won’t ask families to register knowing it will be difficult to give them a worthwhile season. Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to the 2021 season.”
