HOUGHTON — No. 19 Michigan Tech closes out the regular season at No. 4 Minnesota State this weekend.

The Huskies (17-8-1, 7-5 WCHA) are playing the WCHA champions for potential home-ice advantage in the upcoming conference tournament.

Tech and the Maverick (16-3-1, 11-1) split in a Dec. 6-7 series at the John MacInnes Student Ice Arena.

Puck drop is 8:07 p.m. today and 7:07 p.m. Saturday.

The Huskies enter the weekend with a three-game win streak after sweeping Northern Michigan for the third time this season.

The Mavericks are coming off a split against Bemidji State. They won seven straight before the Beavers won 4-3 on Saturday.

The Huskies are tied for fourth at 20 points with Northern Michigan in the WCHA standings. Despite sweeping the Wildcats three times, the Huskies’ COVID-19 delays in January gave the Wildcats opportunity to hang around as the teams entered WCHA play.

If the Huskies remain as one of the top four teams in the conference after the weekend, they’ll host playoff hockey at the Mac.

NMU’s regular season ended with last weekend’s sweep to the Huskies. Tech would secure fourth place via tiebreaker.

Tech enters the weekend arguably playing its best hockey of the season. The Huskies are scoring more goals per game than any other point in the season, while allowing the least goals per game.

Tech scored 3.25 goals per game across 12 games in February. The Huskies allowed 1.66 goals during the month. Tech allowed 1.44 goals for just two games in November.

The Huskies have had a diversified scoring attack all season. They enter the weekend with nine players with at least 10 points. Five of those players have at least 15 points.

Tech has 127 assists on 73 goals, which is an average of 1.74 assists per goal.

In the last five games, the Huskies have 15 goals and 25 assists.

The Huskies have also been anchored by strong play in net from sophomore Blake Pietila and senior Mark Sinclair.

Pietila is 14-5 on the year with a .939 save percentage and 1.65 goals-against average.

Sinclair is 3-2-1 on the year with a .898 save percentage and 2.26 GAA.
