Calumet, LL-H in playoff football games this weekend

The Calumet Copper Kings and Lake Linden-Hubbell Lakes begin their quests for a state championship with opening playoff games this week.

The Copper Kings (7-2) play at Menominee (5-4) in a Division 6 Region 1 District 1 matchup at 7 p.m. Friday.

The Lakes (7-2) host Forest Park (7-2) in an 8-player Division 2 Region 1 matchup at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Other U.P. teams are in the playoffs in a handful of other games.

The Calumet vs. Menominee winner faces the winner of Gladstone (4-5) at Negaunee (7-2).

The Lake Linden-Hubbell vs. Forest Park winner plays the winner of Pellston (7-2) at North Central (9-0).

Rudyard (7-2) visits Munising (7-2) in an 8-player Division 1 Region 1 matchup. Newberry (7-2) visits Pickford (7-2) in the other Region 1 matchup.

Iron Mountain (6-3) hosts Frankfort (6-3) in a Division 8 Region 1 District 1 game. The winner of that game faces the winner of Bark River-Harris (6-3) at Beal City (8-1).

Kingsford (6-3) plays at Kingsley (8-1) in a Division 5 Region 1 District 1 matchup.

Marquette (7-2) is at Mount Pleasant (9-0) in a Division 3 Region 1 District 1 game.
