Copper Kings roll over Panthers, 71-51

CALUMET — Despite a game-high 14 points from Kalvin Kytta, the Chassell Panthers boys basketball ran into a hot-shooting Calumet Copper Kings squad that turned a 41-19 lead at half into a 71-51 win Monday night in Calumet.

Tyler Black, who led the Copper Kings in scoring, got things going early as he hit two three-pointers in the opening quarter as he scored eight of his team-high 13 points. Amar Patterson added four points and Sincere Brooks also hit a three-pointer as Calumet led 21-7 after the first eight minutes.

Black hit a third three in the second quarter as the Copper Kings spread their offense around. Six players found the bottom of the net as the scored 20 points in the quarter.

Chassell started to find its footing in the third as Kytta caught fire. He scored half of his points in the quarter as the Panthers also got a three from Luke Tarvis.

However, Brayden Nelson hit a three-pointer and added five more points had he scored all eight of his points in the third quarter. Blake Tarvis also added six of his 12 points in the the quarter for the Copper Kings.

In the fourth, the Panthers scored 18 points to just 10 by the Copper Kings, but it was too late to catch the hosts.
