Roundup: Purple Hornets, Jets girls earn wins
Ontonagon 54, L’Anse 67
ONTONAGON — Despite having Makennah Uotilla score well more than half of Ontonagon’s 54 points with 39, the Gladiators girls basektball team could not catch up to the L’Anse Purple Hornets on Thursday. The girls from L’Anse won 67-54.
They were led by Brooklyn Dompier with 22 points and Mylee Londo with 20.
The Purple Hornets led 12-7 after the first and 30-22 at half.
They shot 22-28 (78%) from the free throw line.
“We didn’t play that bad. It was just L’Anse had one of those nights when they didn’t miss,” said Gladiators coach Tim Routheaux. “We are getting better and hitting our stride.”

Jeffers 56, Wakefield-Marenisco 40
PAINSEDALE — The Jeffers Jets girls basketball team shot the ball consistently on Thursday night and flew past the Wakefield-Marenisco Cardinals, 56-40, on the basketball court Friday.
They posted 18 points in the first quarter and 17 in the second to make it a 35-19 Jets’ lead at half.
It was a lead that the Cardinals could not catch despite scoring 21 points in the last two quarters.
Sara Johnson led the scoring for the Jets with 22. Raena Kangas followed with 15.
For the Cardinals, Carrie Cole sunk 17 points and Noelle Grace posted 10.
