LAKE LINDEN — The ladies from Superior Service were just six outs away from their third win of the season on Wednesday night at the Boneyard. They led 7-3 against JB’s Sales and Service. However, as Yogi Berra famously quipped, “It ain’t over till it’s over.”
That certainly was the case for JB’s as they scored three in the sixth and two more in the seventh for an 8-7 come-from-behind win.
“We never gave up,” said JB’s player-coach Mackenzie Ekdahl. “In particular, the bottom of our lineup came through.”
Up until that fateful bottom of the seventh, Superior Services was ahead. They started the game with a four-run second inning, which included hits by Raili Therrian and Harlee Froberg. They both scored, as did Reagan Moyler and Dela Miller.
However, JB’s countered runs in the second, third and fifth innings. Jacey Sleeman and Ekdahl (twice) both plated runs against Superior Service’s starter Isabelle Cleary and then relief pitcher Josie Heinonen.

Momentum seemed to be with Superior Service when the squad added three more runs in the sixth. That included a Gracie Moyle triple, which she scored on before the play came to an end. Two batters later, catcher Laura Giachino hit one out of the park with Milly Loukus on second, giving them that four-run advantage heading into the bottom of the sixth.
However, JB’s began their comeback in the sixth frame with three runs. It began with Cori Jahfetson and starting pitcher Lucy Biekkola both getting hits and scoring. Ekdahl then walked and Sadie Biekkola, now pitching, knocked her in with a single to cut the lead down to one run, 7-6.
Then came the seventh, where JB’s first tied the game, and then won.
Lexi Burns led the inning off with a single and advanced to second on a fielder’s choice. Maddie Mitchell brought her home with a double to tie the game. Jahfetson then followed suit with the game-winning RBI double of her own, which gave Mitchell the chance to cross home with ease and put JB’s up by one run.
Sadie Biekkola earned the win, but according to Ekdahl, she could not have done it without her sister Lucy.
“Lucy and Sadie both pitched well,” she stated. “Game ball goes to Lucy.”
NO SECOND GAME
The JB’s emotional comeback win was the only women’s fastpitch game of the night. The Tervo Agency/Superior National Bank game was not played. It will be rescheduled for later in the season.
