Dave’s BP earns trip to title game to face Houghton Building Supply
HANCOCK — In Portage Lake Little League playoff action Monday, Dave’s BP earned a trip to the championship game Tuesday by toppling Coke, 12-1. In the other semifinal game, Houghton Building Supply defeated L’Anse, 5-2.
Blake Heltunen got the win for Dave’s BP by going 6 1/3 innings and striking out 11.
He kept Coke to just two hits until the fifth inning when Cole Seppala earned his second hit of the day, a single, which he later scored on for the lone run.
For Dave’s BP, after struggling to string multiple hits together through the first three innings, they got things going in the fourth.
Chase Keranen got things moving with a one-out single. Isaac Wanhala followed with a single. Heltunen then doubled, knocking in both runs.
In the sixth, Dave’s BP saw their offense turn a 2-1 game into a 7-1 lead.
Redik Randell drew a leadoff walk. Two batters later, Wanhala singled. Heltunen followed with a double. Tyler Isaacson walked. Two batters after that, Landon Gibson walked. Dawson Seppala singled.
In the seventh, Brayden Bain drew a lead-off walk. Jason Parmelee followed with a walk as well. Randell then walked. Two batters later, Wanhala singled. Heltunen then drew a walk. By the time the inning ended, Dave’s had pushed their advantage to 11 runs.
