Huskies outshoot Rangers, but fall in Sunday tilt, 1-0
KENOSHA, Wis. — The Michigan Tech Huskies soccer team outshot Wisconsin-Parkside 12-2 in the second half but could not find the equalizer, falling to the Rangers in a 1-0 decision at Road Wood Soccer Field on a cold, drizzly and windy Sunday in early November.
The Huskies are 1-2 in the last three matches at the Road Wood Soccer Field, dating back to the 2022 season.
“We didn’t show up today in the first half and Parkside made us pay for it. We have to be better from the start and play our style of soccer,” head coach Melissa Kuhar said. “Our biggest struggle all season has been attention to details and that showed today. It’s not for a lack of shots or corners. We have to be able to connect passes and simply, we just have to find the back of the net. We need to improve on some things before the final week of regular season and take that into Thursday’s game.”
In total, Michigan Tech (6-9, 4-8 GLIAC) produced 14 shots and eight corners, with 12 shots and four corners coming in the final 45 minutes. Parkside (4-8-4, 2-6-4 GLIAC) was energized in the first half and played a decent portion of the period in the Huskies defensive zone, recording a shot off the crossbar in the 16th minute before breaking through with the tally in the 31st minute scored by Uda Kimba.
The Black and Gold’s best look in the first half came with under 17 minutes to go with a Ranger’s header just outside of the box finding Pietila outpacing a trio before delivering a sliding shot nearly colliding with Parkside’s goalkeeper.
Pietila added four shots in the second half with a chance off a corner kick by Ryley Winrich in the front of the net, firing the shot low and wide of the goal. Veteran defender Molly Bolang rang the crossbar in the 85th minute, although the Ranger’s defense stood tall, recording five blocked shots.
Pietila produced a team-leading five shots with one on target as Tech goalkeeper Bri Barrows recorded four saves.
The Rangers saw a team-leading two shots on goal by Uda Kimba, who netted the game-winner, as first-year goalkeeper Lola Minic recorded her sixth shutout, making four stops.
