Blue Bolts boys ground Jets, 49-31

DOLLAR BAY — For the second time this season, the Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Blue Bolts boys’ basketball team has kept the Jeffers Jets on the tarmac.

In the opening week of the season, the Blue Bolts put the Jets away 55-37. On Friday, they did it again with a 49-31 win at home during the school’s homecoming festivities.

“This was a team win,” noted Blue Bolts’ coach Jesse Kentala. “No one player really carried the game. If anything, it was our defense that one this one for us. We were locked in and not giving them much to work with offensively.”

The rivals shot out to a 4-4 tie before the Jets took a brief one-point lead at 7-6. However the Blue Bolts (11-4) led 12-7 after one.

Their defense shined in the second quarter as they held the Jets to just four points while they scored another 12. At half, they now led 24-11.

“I told the guys to keep up the strong play,” noted Kentala. “I thought we rebounded really well on both ends of the court – not giving them many second chances.”

The two teams scored 12 each in the third, and the Blue Bolts won the fourth 13-9 for the 49-31 victory.

Despite the loss, Jeffers’ coach Mike Saari was pleased with the effort his team put in on the floor.

“Our energy was much better this time around,” he noted. “We struggle on defense, and we need to shoot better.”

The Jets’ Levi Kinnunen led the scoring with 14 points.

The Blue Bolts had three players in double figures. They included Caleb Kentala with 20. Baron Colbert sunk 13, and Liam Tourtillott had 11 points.
