HOUGHTON -- The Portage Lake Little League Softball 11U All-Star Team has advanced to the state tournament in Sparta, representing District 11 in the process.

The tournament will take place from July 24-27.

As a 10U team last year, most of this team went 8-1 through the district and state tournaments, losing in the state championship game to Georgetown.

Coach Phil Pietila is proud of how well his team has come together again this season.

"We have a solid group of girls who love to play," he said. "We have solid pitching, defense, and all 9 girls can swing the bat.

"We will have to play our best downstate but the girls set a goal to win a state championship so we get another shot."

The team is made up of Ivy Markham, Maci Locatelli, Miina Heinonen, Anna Hanson, McKinley Soli, Allie Mettlach, Reagan RIlei, Avery Pietila, and Kylie Helminen. The coaches again this season are Phil Pietila, Dan Mettlach, and Travis Hanson.
