L’Anse OKs police contract

L’ANSE — The L’Anse Village Council approved a three-year contract with its police union at its meeting Monday night.

The contract with Police Officers Association of Michigan (POAM) calls for a 75-cent hourly raise the first year, then 50-cent raises the next two years. The village was also able to see savings through changes in the health care policy.

Village Manager Bob LaFave said concrete pouring has begun at the seating wall by the village marina. The new floating pier will go out for bids in late summer or early fall. The pier is hoped to be delivered by the spring.

Council members also commented on the increasing turnout for Thursday concerts at the park, which was said to have set a record last week.
