HANCOCK -- In collaboration with the city of Hancock, the Keweenaw Culture Project (KCP) window display will be unveiled Saturday at Noon. Six artists will unveil their window decorations on Hancock's Quincy Street, said Josh Loar, a Michigan Tech professor involved in the KCP.
Window decorations span from 100 Quincy to 532 Quincy at the other end, Loar said, and the community is welcome to vote for a favorite window.
Voting will be open through December 22nd, with winner to be announced on the 23rd.
"Voting is done via a Google form," Loar said, "and there are QR codes in each window that you can scan with a smartphone that will take you to the voting page."

"There were more artists who submitted than windows we had available," Loar said. "We knew that was likely to be the case in advance, and artists had to submit their concept to us for selection."
Artists were selected based on the appropriateness for the spot, he said. For example, a display excluding lights was selected for a spot with no electricity.
It also created a good range of different decoration concepts, Loar said. The window design concept is for the creator or artist to display whatever they feel "the holidays" in the Upper Peninsula is to them, he said.
"We hope to secure more windows for next year if this goes well," he said. "This year, there are 6 contest entrants displaying work."
Loar said there is a reason for having come up with the window display concept.
“Hancock is a lovely town with a lot of fun local businesses," he said. "By investing in the downtown area, creating an attraction for visitors, and making it so that there are fewer visibly dark windows on Quincy Street, we hope to increase the festive atmosphere, and help drive customers to local businesses."
Hancock has great community spirit, he added, "and we’re using people’s natural enthusiasm for the town and the holidays to help bring more festivity and cheer to the downtown area."
