Teen driver killed in M-28 crash

McMILLAN TOWNSHIP — A 17-year-old female was killed in a two-vehicle crash in McMillan Township, Ontonagon County, Thursday night. At about 8:35 p.m., Ontonagon County Sheriff deputies and the troopers from Michigan State Police, Wakefield Post, responded to the report of a crash on M-28 east of Ewen. Upon arrival, police learned a semi, driven by a 42-year-old male, collided head-on with a passenger vehicle driven by a 17-year-old female. She was treated by SONCO ambulance personnel, but died on the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Her name has not been released. The ...

Murder case delayed

HOUGHTON — A Wisconsin woman charged in the December shooting death of a Hancock Township man will undergo a competency evaluation. Margaret Kempainen, 50, had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing in 97th District Court Friday. Her case is now scheduled for a review on March 22. Kempainen is charged with first-degree murder in the death of a relative, Alvin Kempainen, 87. She also faces a count of conspiracy to commit murder.
