While fishing on the Great Lakes, be aware of commercial fishing activities ongoing near several popular ports. Commercial netting gear will be marked with tall buoys with orange flags, which may be a fair distance apart. Be aware of your surroundings and know that commercial nets and associated lines can cause entanglements with fishing gear or boat motors. If you are entangled, cut yourself free and mark the location with GPS or attach a float or buoy and leave the net in the water. Meeting to discuss brook trout

HANCOCK — Area anglers are invited to attend a meeting with the Michigan DNR, next week, regarding the current 10-year requirement limiting harvest to one 20" brook trout from the Pilgrim River. The meeting will take place at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Franklin Township Hall, US 41 next to the Quincy Mine. The DNR will review results from the 10-year study limiting Brook Trout harvesting to increase Brook Trout size. The DNR Fishing Report issued August 6, 2025 Ontonagon River: The river saw a fair amount of fishing effort over the past week. Angler reports show that walleye were caught in low to fair numbers. ESCANABA – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is seeking mentors and volunteers to assist in staffing the DNR’s Pocket Park during the Upper Peninsula State Fair, which runs from Aug. 11-17. “So the Upper Peninsula Pocket Park is a state park located at the U.P.
