He was born on October 20, 1958 in Elgin, Illinois a son of the late George Howard and Lois Marie (Thomas) Elgh. Brett graduated from Wheeling High School with the class of 1976. Brett was employed at JCPenny in Wheeling, Illinois for 20 years. Following his work at JCPenny he moved with his parents to their home in Eagle Harbor.
