For most of my life, I have played ice hockey. Growing up in the Copper Country, having Michigan Tech right next door, it was inevitable that I would discover that ice hockey not only looked fun, but would also turn out to be quite fun to play. Over the weekend, Major League Baseball was kind enough to debut its new wild-card format, a best-of-three series that replaced the old one-and-done scenario. As a New York Mets fan, this set up to be a very fun weekend for me, as my favorite baseball team was going to have three games at home to eliminate another team from the playoffs. It feels good to be back

For four months, I struggled with something I would never wish on anyone else, unemployment. It was an experience unlike anything I can easily describe, and not one I am looking to go through again any time soon. When the Daily Mining Gazette let me go in May, it took awhile for the shock to set in.
