Memorial for Sewell to be held at Tech on Saturday

HANCOCK — A memorial of Dr. William (Bill) Sewell’s life is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday. The celebration will be held in the Rozsa Lobby at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Michigan.

“We would love to keep the memory of those attending, so a guest book will be available at the south entry,” organizers said in an announcement. “David Bezotte’s musical gift to honor Bill will indicate when the program is ready to begin.”

Jack Jobst has offered to lead the memorial. Ted Lockhart and Art Young will join him in the telling of tall tales of their experiences with Bill while they taught in the Department of Humanities at Michigan Tech. Bill was a Professor of Philosophy for 32 years at the University.

Ray Weglarz, co-founder of the Omega House Hospice, will speak of Bill’s role as they worked together to establish the facility. Dr. Sigurd Janners, Bill’s long-time friend and physican, may also tell us about their work together on the Omega House.

After the program, Dave’s music will accompany the transition to a reception. Light snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be served. There is some seating at tables, but guests may want to move about to laugh, to cry, and to celebrate together Bill’s life.

Eleven of Bill’s family members will be present. They will be glad to hear your stories of your time with him.

If you wish to memorialize Bill, please contact your favorite charity or choose one of Bill’s.

Dress will be informal. Guests are encouraged to wear masks, but are not required to do so. Masks will be available at the entries.
