Then & Now

Photo courtesy of MTU archives This undated photograph taken somewhere in the Copper Country depicts a mining community that has not quite reached its peak. In front of the building on the left is part of a horse-drawn wagon suggesting the photo was taken before the popularity of the automobile reached the area, yet, there are also utility poles that contain insulators for electrical wires.

The Daily Mining Gazette invites its readers to step into the past. Included in today’s edition is one historic photo from the Copper Country. Readers are asked to identify the location shown and share a memorable experience of the location.

A collection of reader responses will be published with a current photo and confirmation of its location in next Wednesday’s edition.

Comment on the photos on the Gazette’s Facebook page, email clerk@mininggazette.com with subject line “Then & Now” or mail a response to PO Box 368, Houghton, MI 49931.
