Gym floor coming along

Graham Jaehnig/Daily Mining Gazette Laying of the new floor in the Hancock middle school gym is now complete, and is receiving sealer. The gym should be ready for use when school resumes in January.

HANCOCK — The replacing of the middle school gym floor is progressing, Superintendent Kipp Beaudoin, and workers have been working hard to complete the project.

“The middle school gym is being installed,” Beaudoin told the board at it regular monthly meeting last Monday. “We’re very excited about it. The staff has been working around it, and we’re very appreciative of everybody’s patience.”

Athletic Director Chris Salani informed Beaudoin that the colors for the floor have been selected, and Beaudoin said he is happy with the progress.

The floor was irreparably damaged during the flooding in June, when the ground beneath the school became saturated, forcing water and mud through the concrete pad, then through the sub-floor and the floor, requiring the entirely floor to be replaced down to the concrete.

Beaudoin said the cost of replacing the floor is covered under the school’s insurance.

In a telephone interview Thursday, Beaudoin said the laying of the floor is now complete, and has received its first coat of sealer. The gym should be able to be used after the Christmas break.
