Houghton home damaged in fire
HOUGHTON — A Calverly Avenue home sustained heavy damage Saturday afternoon in a blaze that completely destroyed a two-car attached garage.
The Houghton Fire Department received the call sometime around 4 p.m., said fireman Mike Reynolds. The occupant of the home escaped without injury, he said.
The fire appears to have started in the garage of the 302 Calverly Avenue house, he said, and was contained there, although the living section of the structure sustained heavy smoke and water damage.
Reynolds said at the scene he did not know the cause of the fire, because the investigation had not started yet.
The Houghton Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Houghton Police Department, Hancock Police Department, the Upper Peninsula Power Company, and Semco Energy.
