Agassiz Field is receiving a much-needed facelift
CALUMET — The Agassiz Field renovation project is now underway, said Calumet-Laurium-Keweenaw School District Superintendent Christopher Davidson, with a hoped-for completion date of Aug. 29.
“The timelines are to have to it ready to go by the first game,” Davidson said. “It’ll be a challenge, because many factors are going to play into it, first of which is weather.”
Time is also a factor, because contractors are busy during the summer, he said, and the project is spread out over three contracts.
“Bacco Construction has Contract No. 1,” he said, “which is all the initial excavation and dirt work going on right now.”
H&H Civil Construction has the second contract, which will include installing the field drainage, with water pooling being one of the most contentious problems the field has suffered, said Davidson.
“There will be four of five basins they’re putting in around the field,” he said, “and then H&H will put in the actual drainage that will tie in with that system. They’ll do the sub-grade and the turf and stuff.”
Contract Three was recently awarded, which will include the ticket office and the field houses.
“It’s very exciting, but now we’re looking at endzone colors and those tiny details you don’t think about,” he said.
