Terry Patterson of Houghton plays the bagpies during a walk down Shelden Avneue Friday afternoon. Patterson began playing the bagpipes 10 years ago after hearing a friend demonstrate them. “When somebody plays so close to you, it raises the skin off your bone, you’ve got to do that,” he said. Patterson is keeping in practice for public events later this month; recent performances included numerous local Fourth of July parades. “My wife can only take so much practice at home, so I’ve got to go out,” he said.
