Mohawk residents arrested on charges relating to cocaine

MOHAWK — Two Mohawk residents are in custody on charges relating to cocaine distribution.

Detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET) arrested a 32-year-old man and woman Tuesday morning after an investigation that began several weeks ago. After obtaining a seach warrant, detectives found a number of items at the Cliff Street home, UPSET said in a release. Those included about a quarter-pound of cocaine, more than $6,900 in cash and evidence of drug distribution. The street value of the drugs was estimated at more than $20,000, UPSET said.

The investigation is ongoing. The names of the suspects are being withheld pending arraignment. The Keweenaw County clerk’s office had not received paperwork on the suspects as of Tuesday afternoon.

UPSET was assisted by the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team, Laurium Police Department, Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police Calumet Post.
