Motorcycle crash causes rider severe injuries

EAGLE RIVER — A 60-year-old Calumet man was severally injured Saturday in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on the Gay-Lake Linden Road.

Keweenaw County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene near Coal Dock Road in Sherman Township at approximately 3:35 p.m., where the motorcycle rider had lost control of the 2002 Harley Davidson he was driving, causing the motorcycle to leave the roadway. The driver was ejected from the motorcycle, and thrown approximately 50 feet, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Office.

He was transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy EMS, and later airlifted to a higher-level trauma center for severe injuries sustained in the crash.

Deputy Mark Aho said he did not know if the crash victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Neither speed nor alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in the crash.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Mercy EMS. The accident remains under investigation.
