Pietila charged with drunk driving

HOUGHTON — A National Hockey League prospect was arraigned in 97th District Court on a charge of driving with a high blood-alcohol content.

Blake Pietala, 26, of Milford, Michigan, could be sentenced to up to six months of jail on the charge. It applies to blood-alcohol levels of .17 or higher.

Drafted by the New Jersey Devils in 2011, Pietala played four seasons for Michigan Technological University. He has played 38 games with the Devils over the past four seasons, splitting time between the NHL and the Devils’ American Hockey League affiliate. He signed a one-year contract with the Anaheim Ducks earlier this year.

Pietala is out on bond. His preliminary hearing date was set for July 29.
