Car-dump truck crash totals both vehicles
PORTAGE TOWNSHIP — No people were injured in a car-dump truck accident that totaled both vehicles Friday morning.
About 11 a.m., an elderly couple leaving their driveway on Superior Road in Portage Township failed to observe an oncoming dump truck, the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office said in a release. Swerving to avoid the couple’s Jeep, the dump truck driver lost control of the truck. It went into the ditch, through a concrete guard rail of the bridge over the Pilgrim River.
No injuries were observed at the scene. However, both parties went to UP Health System – Portage to be checked out on their own.
Both vehicles sustained irreparable damage and were recovered by Superior Service and Keweenaw Petroleum Services.
