PORTAGE TOWNSHIP — Two people were injured in a one-car crash Saturday afternoon in Portage Township.

Around 3 p.m., a 17-year-old girl from Pelkie passed another car, then lost control of her vehicle on the slush-covered Tapiola Road while re-entering her lane, according to the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office.

After spinning several times, the vehicle traveled about 100 feet along the shoulder and ditch, striking a culvert in a driveway. It then went another 100 feet before coming to rest on its wheels in the ditch.

The driver was injured, as was a 16-year-old male passenger from Calumet.

The Otter Lake First Responders treated both on scene. Mercy EMS then transported them to UP Health System – Portage for further treatment.

The vehicle sustained major damage and was towed by Superior Service.
