Houghton County seeks crash witnesses

TWIN LAKES — The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office wants to hear from witnesses to a two-car crash in Twin Lakes Thursday morning.

Two people were injured in the crash, which occurred about 9:25 a.m. Thursday on M-26 in front of the Four Seasons Convenience Store. Mercy EMS transported both to UP Health System – Portage hospital for their injuries.

A pickup truck heading south swerved into the oncoming lane to avoid a vehicle pulling out of the convenience store. There, it struck a northbound pickup head-on.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking witnesses in a black SUV that had left the scene to contact the department for additional information. The occupants of the SUV had left because of their need to get to Wausau for an appointment. The Sheriff’s Office can be reached at (906) 482-0055.

Assisting on scene were the Twin Lakes Fire Department, Adams Township First Responders, Mercy EMS, Superior Service Towing and the Michigan State Police.
